Love God

Love God with all we are. It's the greatest command in the Bible. But HOW do we love God? Jesus says, "If you love Me, you'll do what I say." (John 14:15)  We've heard it thousands of times: "It's not about religion, it's about a relationship." How is your relationship with God? Do you want to be closer, but not sure what to do? One of the first steps we can take is simply to spend time with Him.

In multiple surveys done (by Lifeway Research and Barna), the number one factor that promotes spiritual maturity is reading Scripture. Prayer and serving also contribute, but reading the Bible is the primary indicator. The top 2 reasons given for not reading the Bible is not prioritizing it, and believing they have no time to study.

If reading the Bible helps us spend time with God, and is the primary stimulus for Christian maturity, we should prioritize it daily. In fact, studies show that spiritual maturity drops significantly if the Bible is read less than 4 times per week. It's no wonder we don't see much maturity in our churches.

The challenge in GoLove3 is to read your Bible for just 15 minutes a day. That's it. 15 minutes. Taking the time to read Scripture for 15 minutes a day might be awkward initially, but as the weeks go by, it will become one of your most beloved times during the day. You can open or close your time with prayer and click done in the app. This encourages the others to do the same, and for everyone to sense they are growing closer to God.

Obviously, time with God is not just a to-do list to check off, even if it feels that way initially. The goal is that this time will become second nature and a part of the daily rhythm of your life. Making this a priority will transform your connection with God,  and even draw you closer to other friends who are growing in Christ.
